Biography

Lori is a citizen of the Shawnee and Delaware Tribes of Oklahoma. Prior to her current position at KU, Lori worked as a Retention Specialist in the TRiO Student Support Services program at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, KS. In her role at Haskell, Lori provided academic and holistic support for Native American/Alaskan Native students identified as first-generation, Pell-eligible, and/or students with disabilities.

In 2019, Lori earned an MSE in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas. While earning her degree, she worked as an Academic Advisor Graduate Assistant in the KU Undergraduate Advising Center. During that time, Lori also worked with the Adidas Leadership Scholars program serving incoming first-year students who were Pell-eligible or first-generation students and identified as a member of an underrepresented minority.

Lori is also a graduate of Haskell Indian Nations University earning a BA in Indigenous and American Indian Studies in 2017 and an AA in Media Communications. During her time at Haskell, she was editor of the Haskell Indian Leader student newspaper and earned numerous Native American Journalism Association awards for her writing and video news production. She was awarded Haskell Student of the Year and was recognized by the State of Kansas House of Representatives for outstanding leadership at Haskell following her collaborative work that led to the passage of the Indigenous People’s Day proclamation by the Lawrence City Commission.
